On behalf of the Bamboo Circle Steering Committee, I want to thank you for your continued support as a member. I am Julia Kuo, the new Chair of the Bamboo Circle Steering Committee. I am excited to lead this year’s Steering Committee as we continue to mobilize Boston’s young professionals through volunteering, social events, and charitable giving. As we continue to grow our membership base and deepen our engagement levels, we want to see the faces of our members and facilitate broader networking. Please join us on the BCNC Bamboo Circle Facebook page as a member and receive updates on our latest events. |
As a part of my stewardship, we are building out a corporate sponsorship program to help fund 6 major events for our 200+ members and provide an annual contribution to BCNC’s Youth Center. Last year, we were able to raise $5,000 and are looking to increase our contribution this year. Without your financial support, we would not be able to connect with as many young professionals and provide a meaningful impact to the Boston Chinatown community. Please consider partnering with the Bamboo Circle as we grow and further engage in the community. Contact Tina Chien at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 2011 Bamboo Circle Year in Review
Dear Bamboo Circle Members,
The end of 2011 marks the end of Bamboo Circle’s first year and I would like to take a few moments to highlight a few of the things we all accomplished in our inaugural year. (Click on links below to check out photos!)
We kicked off 2011 with a Happy Hour at the Hong Kong Restaurant where we learned more about BCNC and met each other over drinks.
In the spring, 42 members came to the youth center’s Career Day, where they conducted mock interviews, shared advice in career panels and socialized with the students over lunch.
During the summer, members participated in The Amazing Chinatown Race, a scavenger hunt fundraiser that explored the rich history of Chinatown, culminating in a rooftop bbq.
Finally, this past fall at the Become a Mentor Breakfast, 44 potential volunteers enjoyed dim-sum and learned more about mentoring opportunities at the youth center.
In our inaugural year we raised $2,500. This donation was generously matched by Stephanie Fan and increased our total contribution to the Youth Center to $5,000. At the same time, we built our membership to just under 200 people.
As our first year draws to a close, I would like to thank the other 2011 steering committee members for making this past year a success and for laying the groundwork for Bamboo Circle’s future. Thank you to Ken Fan, Tammy Hui, Wendy Lee, Stephanie Pham, Eugene Shih and Helen Wong for all your contributions.Sadly, in 2012, we will be saying good-bye to some committee members. But, fortunately, we will be welcoming new and energetic folks to the committee. For 2012, the steering committee will include myself, Katie Day, Ken Fan, Julia Kuo, Karina Lin, Julie McClure, Eugene Shih and John Xu. The committee consists of people with a variety of professional experience and backgrounds. All of us look forward to meeting you at the next Bamboo Circle Event.
Thank you for making the Bamboo Circle’s first year such a success and here’s to another great year!
Best,
Chris Day, Interim Steering Committee Co-Chair 2011
