Red Oak Group Leader

Program Description: Red Oak After-School Program

Red Oak provides year-round recreational, educational, and leadership development activities for youth ages 5 to 13 years old in a safe and supervised environment. By partnering with the teachers of the school at which most students attend, in addition to various organizations, Red Oak develops its students both academically and emotionally.

Position Summary:   Group Leader/Substitute Group Leader

Group Leaders are responsible for supervising children during academic and recreational activities including homework period, snack/lunch, field trips, program events etc. Group Leaders create and implement developmentally appropriate activities and are responsible for tracking behavioral and academic concerns, supervising assistants, maintaining a relationship with parents and teachers, attending staff meetings and trainings, entering data into online databases and complying with all EEC regulations. Substitute Group Leaders fill in as replacements for Group Leaders as needed and have the same responsibilities. Red Oak is also seeking candidates for this position who may only be available a few days per week.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively

  • Creativity, open mindedness, and flexibility

  • Experience working with youth in afterschool programs or summer camps

  • Good organization and communication skills

  • 18 years old or older; high school graduate or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Red Oak After School/Summer Programs

  • Bilingual English/Cantonese or Mandarin speaking skills

  • Experience with youth development programs and/or youth issues

  • Experience or knowledge of Asian American and/or Asian American youth issues

  • Previous experience in a multicultural, multilingual setting

Schedule and Wage:

September to end of June: 20 paid hours a week (5 days a week)
July to end of August: 37.5 paid hours a week (summer program, 5 days a week)

Wage: $9.80-15/hr, depending on experience and qualifications
