Arts and Enrichment

Arts and EnrichmentThe Arts and Enrichment program was created in 2006, due in part to funding from the Linde Family Foundation. The goal of the program is to increase quality arts education opportunities for children, youth, and families at BCNC and throughout the community.

In 2007, BCNC Arts & Enrichment’s weekend arts program “Sunshine Saturdays” received the Mayor’s award for the “Ace of ACES” as one of the best arts programs in the City of Boston. In 2009, the Museum of Fine Arts awarded BCNC with the Community Recognition Award for our commitment to sustain arts and provide arts programs for the Chinatown community. Since its inception, Arts and Enrichment has reached thousands of people through arts courses, workshop series, special events, and performances.

Activities

BCNC offers low cost courses and free activities for children, youth, and adults focused on enhancing artistic and cultural experiences for all members and friends of our community. We also host interesting speakers and authors with something to share with our community. Past presenters have included award-winning novelist Ha Jin, spoken word performer Beau Sia and internationally-renowned author Gish Jen.

Some participate in classes or events because they offer culturally and linguistically-sensitive community education unavailable anywhere else; others cherish the opportunity to have new experiences in a familiar setting; still others come to learn something new, while making a visit to Chinatown as a bonus. Whatever the reason, BCNC offers an opportunity to build connections with each other.

The After School Enrichment Program serves over 350 students per academic year, providing homework/subject tutoring and enrichment activities. Our program appreciates the extraordinary group of instructors and volunteers who dedicate their time to help students improve their grades and overall academic confidence. We are currently accepting applications for volunteer tutors to help close out the 2010-2011 school year. For more information on our program and on how to apply to become a tutor, please click on the flyer below.
