BCNC maintains two options for families in our Early Education and Care department: a center-based program, Acorn Center for Early Education and Care, and a home-based Family Child Care system.
Opened in 1972, the Center was the first bilingual Chinese and English child care program in Massachusetts. Today, children of all backgrounds and cultures participate in creative and developmental learning through songs, stories, role-play, and hands-on activities. Each classroom is staffed by an English speaking and a Chinese speaking teacher to foster development of both English and Chinese language skills in all children. Recognized as a high-quality center, the majority of our staff has degrees in early childhood education and multiple years of experience in the field.
The center's child-centered curriculum integrates the cultural heritage of all children and staff nurtures each child's learning and development by providing a consistent and stimulating environment. Group and individual activities are structured to help young children discover the joy of learning, and encourages the exploration of new vocabulary, their own senses, creativity, social skills and the environment around them.
The center serves 81 children ages 15 months through 6 years old in five classrooms, is open full day, year round and serves a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack prepared by in-house kitchen staff. The center holds accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
