After School Program Volunteer

Program: Red Oak After School
Description:

Read or play games with children, tutor, share skills and talents such as arts, sports, gardening or cooking. College work study and internship placements available.18 years old minimum age for volunteers. CORI and SORI check required.

Arts and Enrichment

Program: Arts and Enrichment
Description:

Enrichment Club Leader or Enrichment Club Assistant

Lead a weekly arts or other enrichment activity for children during after-school hours. Must enjoy working with children or youth. Club Leaders should be 18+ years of age and should have background or experience in instructing the activity they are interested in.

Commitment

Minimum of once a week, 2-2.5 hours per day. Club activity occurs over a 5-month period (late Sept-Feb; Feb-June)

Program: Arts and Enrichment
Description:

Enrichment Club Assistant

Assist Enrichment Club Leaders in running a weekly arts or other enrichment activity for children during after-school hours. Must enjoy working with children or youth. Club Assistants should be 16+ years of age.
Commitment:

Minimum of once a week, 1.5-2 hours per day. Club activity occurs over a 5-month period (late Sept-Feb; Feb-June)

Early Education Volunteer

Program: Acorn Center for Early Education and Care
Description: 16 years old minimum age for volunteers. CORI and SORI check required.
  • Children reading and activities
  • Organizing library/curriculum Materials
  • Chinese translations
Commitment: 2-6 hours between 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday - Friday

Family Child Care Volunteer

Program: Family Child Care
Description:

Bilingual in Chinese and English required.
Technical assistance to child care providers in order to get licensed - e.g. on-site translation, filling forms, consultation on small business skills

  • ESL tutoring in small groups
  • Basic computer training to providers
Commitment: 1-2 hours per week, flexible

Special Events and Communications

Program: Development
Description: Assist in organizing special events, grant research, marketing and public relations
Time Commitment: Flexible

Operations - Document Translations: English to Chinese

Program: Agency-wide
Description: Assist with accurate translations of external communications from English to Chinese.
Time Commitment: Flexible

Tutor

Program: Adult Education
Description:

18 years old minimum age for volunteers. CORI and SORI check required.

  • ESOL Tutoring; 2hrs/week for 6 months commitment

  • Other volunteer opportunities include:Class Aid/Assistant, Teacher’s Resource Library (1hr/week), Facebook Team Leader

Time commitment:

2-6 hours between 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday – Friday; Other volunteer opportunities varies in commitment.

Tutor

Program: Arts & Enrichment - After School Enrichment Program (ASEP)
Description:

Tutors provide homework help to K-5 elementary school students at the Josiah Quincy Elementary School, from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, Mondays through Thursdays. Tutors may be asked to assist in enrichment activities, if needed.

Time commitment:

There are two sessions of tutoring – first session starts late September and ends mid February; second session starts in late February and ends mid June. We ask that volunteers be able to commit to at least one day per week for an entire session or preferably for the entire school year.

Program: Youth Center
Description: Tutor middle school and high school students
Time commitment: Minimum of 3 hours/week for 4 months; tutors also conduct regular assessments of tutees
