BCNC Welcomes Seven New Board Members
Date Posted: June 15, 2007

Over 60 guests joined us at our Annual Meeting held on June 14th. Children from BCNC’s Red Oak After School program kicked off the evening with a rousing taiko drum performance. Agency Director, Elaine Ng, reviewed highlights of the past year such as the opening of the Arts Center and the launching of our Arts & Enrichment program Sunshine Saturdays. Seven new board members from diverse backgrounds and expertise were elected to the Board of Directors.  We are excited about the growth of the board and the new energy and diverse expertise they represent.

Grace H. Lee and Leverett Wing, from the Asian American Commission (AAC), were the keynote speakers. They explained the history and formation of the Asian American Commission and described how the entire community can get involved.

AAC Executive Director Leverett Wing said, “Many folks in our community just don't know how government works or how it affects them.  I think AAC helps in that area.”

“From a basic role of civic engagement and education to addressing more specific issues, there are so many different areas that the AAC can play a role in.  We have different subcommittees like Economic Development (both Domestic and International), Health & Human Services, Education, Outreach, Advocacy and this is where you all come in.”

“We really want and need you to step up and participate. We need your ideas and we need your energy because there are so many different directions we can go in.”
