Deputy Director

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director works with the Senior Leadership Team to create and execute operational strategies.  The Deputy Director will have both internal and external responsibilities, including management (program development and evaluation, framing organizational approaches and philosophy, ensuring high-quality services), administration (operational planning and reporting, information technology, facilities and systems), staff cultivation and development, and external relationship development.  The Deputy Director will work in partnership with the Director of Finance to develop strategic responses to operational community and organizational opportunities and challenges.

 

 

Responsibilities

            Management and Administration

Organizational Planning and Project Management

  • Plan, develop and implement strategy for organizational management and development 
  • Establish and maintain systems for measuring organizational performance
  • Monitor, measure and report on organizational development plans and achievements
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of contemporary organizational development theory and methods and provide suitable interpretation to managers and staff
  • Work with the director of learning and evaluation to develop program evaluation plans, and incorporate evaluation and learning into operational strategies and program development
  • Identify best practices and integrate into organizational development
  • Identify emerging practice areas and opportunities for organizational growth
  • Share in knowledge dissemination and encourage active learning and incorporation of new ideas

Operational Strategy

In partnership with the Director of Finance:

  • Develop, implement, monitor, evaluate and report on operational strategy and performance
  • Communicate and define operational strategies and solutions to staff
  • Develop annual organizational work plans identifying key activities and priorities
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure consistent internal communication and work processes, with an emphasis on improvement
  • Work with the program managers to develop annual budgets
  • Work closely with the development department in fundraising and proposal development
  • Ensure that programs remain on budget and in compliance with license requirements and/or regulations
  • Manage and ensure optimal performance in key operational areas including information technology systems, facilities maintenance, and human resource administration and development

            Supervision and Training

  • Set and manage staff performance targets
  • Recruit, manage and develop direct reporting staff
  • Ensure staffing levels are met and managed
  • Develop staff development standards and ensure that standards are met throughout the agency

Requirements:

·         B.A. required; Master’s degree preferred in a related field. 

·         Minimum five years in management, preferably in a senior leadership capacity in a nonprofit, foundation, or government entity preferred.

·         Excellent management skills with strong yet flexible analytical and problem solving skills. 

·         Demonstrated leadership ability with experience in change management and organizational development.

·         Experience in fundraising, with ability to develop and write complex grants.

·         Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and invest stakeholders.

·         Ability to build and work within a team environment while developing staff leadership and growth. 

·         Experience with fiscal management and budgets, with an ability to strategically allocate resources.

·         Experience with evaluation principles and outcome measurement, and applying data and evaluation to inform and develop programs.

·         Proven ability to motivate and lead.

·         Superior organizational skills and overall attention to detail.

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills.

·         Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.

·         Self-disciplined and able to manage and meet multiple deadlines.

·         Experience with and knowledge of the Asian American population or other ethnic minority group.

·         Proficiency in Windows environment, MS Office and related applications.
