BCNC Portraits: Helen, Family Services Intern

Helen is a student at Boston University’s School of Social Work and BCNC Family Services intern. At BCNC, she provides individual counseling, case management, translation services, and facilitates the Parenting Journey group.

Working with mainly Chinese immigrant adults, Helen is able to conduct counseling bilingually. “My favorite aspect about working at BCNC is the opportunity to work in the Asian community. I can speak Chinese to my clients to better communicate with them.”

Because of the culture and language connections, she helps participants feel more comfortable during counseling. Inspired by what she’s learned practicing her language skills in a social work setting, Helen hopes to return to China to help develop practices there.
