Celebrating 20 Year Award from English for New Bostonians

BCNC Adult Education program, ESOL for Parents and Caregivers, was granted an award for 20 years of partnership with English for New Bostonians (ENB) at their “Raising Our Voices 20th ENB Anniversary Celebration" on November 4th.

Partners from ENB’s past and present spoke about the great work the organization has done over the past 2 decades. BCNC was featured during the awards presentation, along with 6 other organizations. Over the past 20 years, ENB support has served over 500 students through BCNC ESOL classes.

ENB currently funds our ESOL for Parents and Caregivers class, a free English class for parents and caregivers of K-12 children in the Boston Public Schools (BPS) system and other public school systems around Greater Boston. Hear from past students about their experience from our program:

I am so happy that I can take BCNC parent class and help my child with his homework. Also, I could talk to other parents while waiting for the school bus every day.
— Heajung Lee, an immigrant from Korea
I am proud of myself for learning English. My children say it has gotten a little better, which makes me happy. Also, I can help my parents with their appointments. This encourages me to continue to study and work hard.
— Yuezhu Ning
Before I started the class, I spoke English very badly.  Now I can talk to my son’s teacher. I am so lucky I can study at BCNC, because my life has changed, my life have goals, I can speak English easily, I have a lot friends, and I have my dream job.
